In Saturday’s editorial, “But it’s troubling that [Secretary of State Condoleezza] Rice has declined to rule out keeping a U.S. military presence there for 10 more years.”
For 60 years we have maintained a military presence in Germany. And for good reason, too. This year there was a Neo-Nazi rally in Magdeburg, Germany.
Additionally, you noted in Sunday’s edition of Outlook, “In Germany, the extreme-right National Democratic Party rocked Germany’s mainstream parties last year when it won a handful of seats in an eastern German state parliament.” Just like 1931.
For that matter, how long was there or has there been an American military presence in Japan, South Korea and many other places around the world?
We are in trouble with the believers of Islam who seek a Caliphate that will control the world. Most wars we learned about in school are over land, ports, minerals and natural resources. Consequently, we are psychologically unprepared for a long-term “war” with an enemy that seeks to return women to the 13th century, and to deny the blessings of freedom to all. What is at stake now is Western civilization. Nothing more. Nothing less.
