A light earthquake hit the Kish Island in Persian Gulf waters, southern Iran, on Tuesday.

The tremble sent panic-stricken residents of the island to streets.

It occurred at 13:40 local time (1010 GMT).

The seismological center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University confirmed the tremble saying it would later report on its intensity.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.

Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world’s most active seismic fault lines.
