Manama, Bahrain — The USS Philadelphia nuclear submarine collided with a Turkish cargo ship in the Persian Gulf before dawn Monday, and spokesmen for both vessels said nobody was injured and damage was minor.
The submarine, with a crew of 125, was traveling on the surface of the Gulf when it slammed into the 52,400-ton bulk carrier ship, with a crew of 20, about 2 a.m. local time (6 p.m. EST Sunday), according to the 5th Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain.
